No Kidding! Ottawa is an all-volunteer, non-profit social club for both couples and singles who, for whatever reason, have never had children. It is not a business or a political organisation and also not an empty-nest club nor a singles introduction bureau. It's just a small informal social group of non-parents looking to make new childfree friends.

Would you like to join us? Our events are open to all non-parents; there are no membership applications or fees required. We would like to hear your suggestions of venues and activities which may be of interest to you.

No Kidding! Ottawa Survey Results

A survey was sent to members of the No Kidding! Ottawa e-mail list in 2002 asking about future events:

Most common preference was for two events a month (second choice: one/month), days floating (not same day/time each month). No clear consensus on the best days/times to hold events; best was Wednesday or Saturday evenings, next best was Sunday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Preferred start time was 6:30pm/7:00pm or later.

Most favoured activities were hiking, biking, dancing, cross-country skiing, travel, movies, museums/galleries and bowling. Also popular were concerts, playing sports or board games, seeing a 67's game or having a fancy Christmas dinner.

A few other suggestions were: pickup soccer, tobogganing, snow shoeing, walks, downhill skiing, pool/billiards, curling, horseback riding, hot air ballon ride, Maxville Highland Games (August), concerts, maple sugar cabin, murder mystery night.

Almost all said they'd be interested in a Sunday brunch on occasion. A summer picnic was also suggested, as many would like a potluck but we have nowhere to hold one. For restaurant visits, preferred price range was $15-30/person; preferred cuisine was anything that's not spicy.

Some more recent suggestions: (May'03) Dow's Lake Pavilion, camping/picnic, Wakefield steam train, Navan fair, experimental farm, Bluesfest, fringe festival, brunch or restaurant dinner: duBarry's, Marble Works, Mann's Kitchen, Mexicali Rosa, Nam, Shanghai, Zacks; (Nov'03) Lone Star, Pub Italia, Bytowne Cinema.
